Biography - Rick Wheeler

Originally from California, I have lived in the Four Corners region of the American southwest since 1994. The cultural and natural history of the area has been a heavy influence on my work, which includes landscape, wildlife, and figurative.

I attended the San Francisco Art Institute, as well as the San Francisco Academy of Art University. I was awarded a scholarship to study drawing and painting at the Institute, and later studied illustration at the Academy. I hold an A.A. degree in graphic design, and a B.A. in Fine Art from Prescott College, Arizona.

When not producing work for exhibit or clients, I enjoy teaching at the Art Institute wing of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (15th year); as a mentor at Prescott College, Tucson; and most recently at the Tubac School of Fine Art, Tubac, AZ. I also teach 1 to 3-day workshops for individuals, small groups, and art organizations both locally and nationally, on request.
